Continuing Education Requirements

The American Council of Hypnotherapist Examiners requires continuing education for re-certification in a manner similar to other groups in the Healing Arts and Counseling Professions.

UPDATE: Due to Covid-19 we are offering additional webinars for CE credit, in addition to the ways to earn hours that are listed below. If the pandemic has caused a financial hardship, the waiver is an option. (See #9)

“Continuing education activities not directly related to the practice, techniques or methods of hypnosis may be accepted, on a case-by-case basis, when a direct relationship to specifics of your practice is demonstrated. For hours not clearly related to hypnosis, please provide a brief statement of explanation for your request. If you are unsure if a course you’re considering would qualify for CE credit, please contact the office.”

Lapsed Certifications

If your Certification has lapsed more than *6 years, the following will be required.

1. Complete 30 Continuing Education Hours, earned within the past 2 years. (See Suitable CE activities below)

2. Complete the ACHE 12-hour Refresher Course listed on the website and pass the test that accompanies the course.

3. Submit a video of a hypnotherapy session with a client or volunteer that contains the following:

A. Interview
B. Write suggestions in light of the information gained from the interview
C. Education about Hypnosis
D. Induction
E. Deepener
F. Convincer
G. Deliver positive suggestions
H. Re-alert

ACHE will require the written permission of the client or volunteer that has agreed to be filmed. The video will be reviewed and evaluated to determine if additional education is required in a particular area.

*Example of 6 years: If your certification expired on December 31, 2015, you would have until December 31, 2021 to renew with only the 30 Hour Continuing Education Requirement.

Guidance for Continuing Education

ACHE registrants are required to engage in a minimum of 30 hours CE in each two-year registration period.  ACHE seeks to encourage registrants to engage in diverse educational activities to keep their knowledge and skills updated and to continue their development as hypnotherapists and growing individuals. To renew, complete your CE hours within the last two years.

It is recommended that registrants engage in CE activities over a minimum of four categories.  If there are particular circumstances where this may prove difficult, please provide a brief account of the circumstances when renewing registration.
