ACHE is committed to protecting the integrity of the hypnotherapy profession through clear educational standards and responsible certification practices. To ensure that hypnotherapists receive consistent, high-quality training, schools that wish to certify students through ACHE must meet specific requirements for approval, curriculum content, instruction hours, and ongoing review. The following overview summarizes the core standards and responsibilities for ACHE-approved schools.

Overview of Certification Requirements for Schools

The American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE) upholds a strong commitment to ensuring the quality of hypnotherapist certification. This commitment requires schools seeking to certify hypnotherapists to obtain both an initial approval to open as a school and an annual submission and fee for approval to renew certification of the school.

Approved schools must deliver a training program that leads to the initial certification of hypnotherapists. This program must include at least 200 hours of instruction. If the training is provided primarily online, a minimum of thirty percent (30%) of the total instructional hours must be conducted face-to-face with students, either in person or live online.  Time spent on additional methodologies outside of hypnotherapy does not count toward this requirement.

The curriculum of each school must meet specific content requirements based on the Standards of Education and Training for Initial Certification of Hypnotherapists, the Online Standards, and relevant regulations regarding topics excluded from initial hypnotherapist preparation.

Additionally, schools must comply with any applicable state, regional, or international regulations for operating educational institutions. Each school owner is responsible for serving as the Designated Examiner for the ACHE final certification examination or for appointing an instructor to fulfill this role.

All school owners and instructors are required to hold certification as hypnotherapists or clinical hypnotherapists from the ACHE. Upon receiving approval, schools are also permitted to offer continuing education credits in addition to the core program for initial certification.

To maintain ACHE approval, schools must submit for review any significant changes to their course catalog, as well as new content for continuing education classes, to the Education, Training and Standards Committee.

Certifying Schools at the ACHE

ACHE approval ensures that schools delivering hypnotherapy education meet consistent training, curriculum, and examination standards while remaining aligned with online requirements and applicable educational regulations. Through initial approval, annual renewal, and ongoing review, ACHE supports schools in providing responsible and professional hypnotherapy training that protects both students and the public.
