Certifying Hypnotherapists

Learn how ACHE certification prepares hypnotherapists through 200+ hours of training, ethical standards, supervised practice, and continuing education.

Overview of Certification

Certification at an ACHE approved school provides an opportunity for students to receive a comprehensive education in hypnotherapy. The certification process requires students to complete at least two hundred (200) hours of instruction. This instruction is delivered by an experienced hypnotherapist who is certified by the ACHE, providing students with a strong conceptual understanding of hypnotherapy fundamentals. Through this coursework, students develop essential skills and learn processes that support clients, participate in supervised practice, and gain a thorough understanding of ethical behavior expected in the profession.

Ethics and Professional Scope

Ethical conduct is a cornerstone of hypnotherapy, and all students are expected to abide by the standards set forth by the ACHE. The certification program emphasizes the importance of understanding the scope and limitations of hypnotherapy certification. Specifically, certification does not qualify an individual to diagnose or treat medical illnesses or conditions, nor does it grant permission to prescribe medications.

Maintaining Certification Through Continuing Education

To become certified as a hypnotherapist, students must successfully complete all required courses, receive a recommendation from their instructors, and achieve a passing score on the ACHE final written exam. Upon meeting these criteria, students are eligible to apply for certification as hypnotherapists.

Advancing to Clinical Hypnotherapist

Certified hypnotherapists who wish to maintain their membership and eligibility to practice as ACHE approved hypnotherapists must complete a minimum of thirty hours (30) of continuing education credits every two years. Documentation of these credits must be provided to maintain certification status. Additionally, hypnotherapists who have received their initial certification can earn the title of Clinical Hypnotherapist by completing an additional one hundred (100) hours of coursework.

Student Membership in ACHE

Students preparing to enroll in, or who are currently enrolled in, an ACHE approved school may join the ACHE by paying a nominal membership fee. As part of the membership process, student members are required to sign and adhere to the ACHE Code of Ethics. Student membership is valid for up to two years and provides several benefits, including access to the ACHE newsletter, attendance at free ACHE webinars, and discounted rates for ACHE conferences.

ACHE Certification for Hypnotherapists

ACHE certification strengthens the profession by setting clear training requirements, emphasizing ethical scope, and supporting continued learning through ongoing education. From student membership through advanced credentials, ACHE provides a structured pathway for professional growth and accountability in hypnotherapy.
